We are thrilled to announce that one of our major research efforts at the Semantic Web Lab (SWLab) has been published in a prestigious journal with an impact factor of 2.4!
The paper, titled “A Hybrid Approach to Ontology Construction for the Badini Kurdish Language,” represents a groundbreaking step in developing a semantic web ontology tailored for the Badini dialect of Kurdish, addressing a significant resource gap for this low-resource language.
Key achievements include:
- The creation of the UOZBDN corpus, manually annotated with part-of-speech (POS) tags.
- Development of an HMM-based POS tagger for the Badini dialect.
- Extraction of semantic predicates and ontology development using robust methodologies, achieving a precision rate of 97.42% based on manual evaluation.
This research highlights the potential of semantic ontologies in advancing natural language processing (NLP) for tasks such as knowledge extraction, question answering, and information retrieval in the Kurdish language.
Huge congratulations to my colleagues Ms. Media Sabah and Dr. Ismail Ali for their incredible dedication and contributions to this milestone!
