SWlab Launches Ambitious Project: Building a Kurdish Semantic Web

The Semantic Web Lab (SWlab) at the University of Zakho has announced the launch of a groundbreaking project aimed at developing a comprehensive semantic web for the Kurdish language. This ambitious initiative seeks to unlock the vast potential of Kurdish web content by extracting meaningful knowledge and relationships from unstructured data.

To spearhead this project, SWlab is inviting applications for two fully-funded PhD positions. Successful candidates will focus on the critical area of Ontology Extraction Based on Kurdish Web Content.

Project Goals:

  • Develop a robust Kurdish ontology: A structured representation of Kurdish knowledge, encompassing concepts, properties, and relationships.
  • Extract knowledge from Kurdish web content: Utilize advanced natural language processing techniques to extract meaningful information from diverse sources like websites, social media, and news articles.
  • Build a knowledge graph for the Kurdish language: A visual representation of the extracted knowledge, enabling users to explore and navigate complex relationships between concepts.
  • Advance Kurdish language technologies: Contribute to the development of tools and resources for natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine translation in Kurdish.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong background in computer science or a related field
  • Passion for natural language processing and semantic web technologies
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Kurdish and English
  • Experience with programming languages like Python
